Your NameKaren Woo
Cohort AssignmentCohort D (Australia)
1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

My work role is as Social Sustainability Manager. I'm interested in learning about regenerative development and practices that will enable better outcomes.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

Growth from within and new approaches/perspectives for better decision making in the course of my work as well as sharing learnings and influencing my team and stakeholder networks.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

An understanding of regenerative development and the role I can play to champion this in the course of my work and also in my home life.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

Taking up running during covid and maintaining it ever since has given me new confidence. A change of jobs 16 months ago, has given me a new start and I've continued to grow as a person and in confidence as a result.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

Becoming more aware of and attuned to my surrounds, the environment. This does not come naturally to me as I don't notice things because I'm not very conscious/sensitive.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

Jane Jacobs is a hero of mine & her classic "The Death & Life of Great American Cities"
Place Making, Community Development and Behavioural Psychology

5. And for professional growth?

Becoming more comfortable with practising radical candour and not avoiding conflict. Curb my habit of being too apologetic or self deprecating.

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

I'm of christian faith with chinese ethnic heritage. I'm very interested in first nations culture and wisdom, particularly in connections to land, knowledge systems and caring for country.

Humans are powerful stewards of the earth, we are part of the ecosystem but often fail to recognise the interdependence and operate in extractive and destructive ways, I look forward to learning about regenerative practices that will benefit the planet for the time we are placed here. What positive legacies can we each leave behind? Not necessarily big impactful ones but small ones that can have a big impact on individuals.
