Cohort AssignmentCohort A (Europe + MENA)
1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

Develop and maintain curiosity for ways to connect with others, overcoming 'othering' by suspending judgement and focus on love in its widest sense for human and nonhuman inhabitants of this planet as the foundation for discovering and seizing the potential of place and community. Within this: nourishing patience and inner strength to keep going at the pace of trust in the context of the multiple crises and their very limited time frames for positive action.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

With reference to the Wheel of Wisdom (H3 Uni https://www.h3uni.org/tutorial/wheel-of-wisdom/) I see my role most naturally as a Strategist and/or a Guardian of Transformation whilst acknowledging that throughout the different life stages of my regenerative work I will take on a variety of roles as observer, convener, enabler or initiator. Within these, I am likely to go through the entire wheel and its 8 roles.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

To be able to connect the dots, to develop the capacity to integrate regenerative approaches to all of my work, whether client based projects in the forestry and construction industry or self-generated projects in the place I live in, to inspire and engage those around me to taking their own steps into a learning journeys exploring regenerative ways of being and doing.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

Patience, tolerance, awareness of my worldview and underlying assumptions in my thinking and being and interacting with others. Exploring and embracing alternative worldviews with curiosity and an open mind. Being mindful of my needs and energy sources and tending to them.

5. And for professional growth?

I am pleased to sense some discomfort and astonishment reading this question: where is the difference between personal and professional growth? Am I not the same person? Of course, the question does make sense if it specifically focuses on skill or competence areas required in a professional context. As such, I feel that my growth potential lies across all arenas of my existing competences and skills: I need to evolve and develop my capacity to apply and/or replace these to move from sustainable to regenerative processes, to focus on potential rather than solutions, to truly come away from linear ‘planning’ and live a living systems approach in and through everything I offer.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

I have invested in professional training and ‘experiments’, i.e. self-developed projects, human relationships and maintaining a connection to nature (in particular forests, mountains, oceans) over the past 25 years. Most importantly maybe I have invested in the personal freedom to say ‘No’ to projects and organisations whose values were contrary to mine and paid bitterly the few times I did not adhere to this personal ‘maxime’. One could argue that I have also invested in being a mother and a partner for life, in proving that you can have a great career working in interesting systems change projects whilst living a fulfilling relationship and being there for your children at all times of need, and that with hindsight my personal experiment shows quite the opposite is the case: do one thing well at a time almost certainly is a better choice. I have invested in the foundation and development of two international professional organisations, European Social Marketing Association ESMA and International Social Marketing Association ISMA, until I felt that this approach was not conducive to the systems change we need. I am currently investing in the development of new narratives through the use of collective story-telling approaches with futurs proches and through the project Ti-MX.bzh.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

Throughout my studies: sociology and its overlap with macro economics, corporate behaviour in transnational contexts, group dynamics and group facilitation. Following my professional aspirations: communication for sustainability and behaviour change, in particular ‘Social Marketing’ as proposed by Andreasen, Kotler, etc. (see Q6); andragogy (adult learning).
More recently: the work of the MIT Presencing Institute around the use of theory U; Sociocracy and how to implement it in projects and existing organisations; the idea of ‘Guiding Questions’; Bioregional Mapping; Three Horizons model; Doughnut Economics
Thinkers: Daniel Christian Wahl, Titch Nat Han, Meg Wheatley, Robin Wall Kimmerer, Otto Scharmer, Tim Jackson, Paul Hawken, Fritjof Capra, Arlie Russel Hochschild, Horst Kern, Jonathan Frantzen, Richard Powers, Anna Enquist, Toni Morrison, Nuruddin Farah, Murakami, Erich Kaestner, Astrid Lindgren, Rose Auslaender, Paul Celan, Inge Mueller, Erich Fried. As they say: this list is not exhaustive, nor in order of importance.
For completeness as it is the most recent 'learning' I invested in, I should list the Gaia Education Design for Sustainability and Regeneration course here as an attempt at gaining a more holistic view of the different dimensions contributing to regenerative work.

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

I see myself on a continuum between nature as a resource and the concept of SEVA, which is what I am aspiring to. I am not always entirely sure where on this continuum I am in a given moment. There are steps forward and lapses backwards.
