1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

I see my primary work as a supporter and contributor towards projects. I'm currently in a period of transition, having recently left my job in philanthropy and am working very part time as a freelance writer for Farmer D Consulting. I'm not sure exactly what I'm moving towards, but I feel called to work in regenerative agriculture and community building.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

I see my role as a facilitator of vision-setting, whether that's for my own or other's projects. I find myself constantly in the role of supporter and connecter of people and ideas. And I find this role really fulfilling! As a generalist, I enjoy understanding the big picture/vision/goal and how to bring different folks from different paths and specialties together.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

Currently, I feel very uprooted and ungrounded which makes all the above very difficult and nebulous to navigate. Since I'm in a period of transition, my goal is to find a place, environment or scenario where I can root down and dig into the roles that I love and thrive in. My aim is to explore and find where I fit in, what work I can use my strengths in and how to make sure all of that is aligned with my values for day-to-day life.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

Confidence is a big one for me. Someone recently described me as an insecure overachiever and I'm letting that sit with me as I work through my professional and personal transitions. I would like to develop my intuition and confidence to know when I'm ready to move out of the preparation and information gathering phase and take action on a project or goal. With confidence also comes the acceptance that failure is a valuable part of life. I find that at this moment my personal and professional areas of growth are very similar. One of the reasons I left my previous job is because I felt deeply disconnected from my day-to-day life and wanted greater alignment between the culture of work and the culture of my life.

5. And for professional growth?

Above.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

I have invested in a lot of education - formal academia; permaculture courses and workshops; naturalist trainings. I love research, analysis and writing and for a long time believed this was the only way I could contribute to the world. After severe burnout after masters program and work at a foundation, I had to rethink what nourished me and felt sustainable on a human level.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

To name a few off the top of my head: Systems thinking has been incredibly instrumental in the way I approach any topic or problem; The ethnographic approach to research; permaculture; A book called "The Crossroads of Should and Must"; Paramahansa Yogananda

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

I believe very strongly that humans are part of nature/ecosystems and have a right to have positive impacts on Earth. I do not agree with fortress conservation or the idea of wilderness without positive human presence. That is to say that I strongly believe that the narrative surrounding humans and nature has left the impression that we are not part of nature and can only have negative impacts (which is sometimes hard for me even to dispute) and that the only solution is to remove ourselves. I'm an idealist and believe that setting the positive and ideal vision for where we need to go as a society is the most important thing we can do. Otherwise, what are we working towards? Focusing only on problems without spending equal/more time crafting a vision for the future makes our solutions reactions rather than intentions for the future.
