Cohort AssignmentAustralia 2023
1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

My Primary work at this stage of my life is to be supportive to my daughter as she progresses through the last two years of high school helping her to forge her own path, supporting my son discovering his own inner purpose as he works his way through his uni degree and my husband with his craft - that doesn't leave a lot for me - but I believe that my kids are the future, I had them to make a better world, it's hard out there, they need emotional support.
For me I have just returned to full time work in and architects office - as I felt that was where my agency is to do good for the community, so I have found a position in an office that works on community based projects. For the last 15 years I have been running a bespoke furniture business with my partner designing and crafting made order pieces out of beautiful l Australian hardwoods- mostly recycled. At the end of last year l felt that this wasn't all there was for me and I needed to something more...perhaps this was because my partner and I had become stale together, all I know is that I felt there was something else to come through me and this course I felt may be a way of helping to work that out.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

Right now I am a supporter and facilitator, but I feel I may be gathering traction to become a leader of some sort. But to be honest, I don't really know and am staying in the not knowing for a while.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

I have thoughts about providing/creating housing for the vulnerable - particularly aging single women, creating some sort of community housing that has care facilities. Women have historically given up so much and then in their later years can find themselves alone and without support - I can see myself providing housing whether it is through my architectural skills or through moving into a management/business role to create a space to provide this.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

Finding my Voice
Being truely present.
Waking Up.

5. And for professional growth?

This Course.
Leadership
I have just returned to an Architectural position a fortnight ago, I feel like starting the job is one leap of professional growth.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

Time, love energy - this is what I put into my architecture degree, my business with my partner and my kids.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

Jungian Psychology, Usual K Le Guin
Pilates, Yoga, meditation
The work of Byron Katie - I have been doing her worksheets - they are transformative
Architectural designers - Alvar Alto especially as he was one of the early adopters of taking taking design cues from nature
Satre, Kant, Russel, Nietche, Rilke, in my early 20's I read a lot heavy philosophy and pondered existence deeply
The Universe in Verse & Maria Popova's blogs/newsletters
Permaculture methods and disciplines.

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

We are but specks on an orb that inhabits space doing our best each day in the vastness. Time is expansive, we get too caught up in the day to day and forget the earth has been spinning for eons - and will continue to do so without us. Humans place way too much importance on themselves.
