1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life? | My primary work focuses on providing strategy and leadership for Program work at my organization. The Program work focuses on Build It Green’s organizational direction to transform the housing ecosystem through regenerative development and providing changemakers with new ways of approaching their work. |
2. What role do you see as yours to play? | My role is guiding people and teams to advance their work and objectives that center around equity and improving the vitality and connection with the environment. |
3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above? | My primary motivation in the roles and work I’ve chosen to take on is doing work that I see as adding positive value and change to the systems I am in. Previously, my work supported extractive relationships, and I’d like to put my energy into roles and work that fosters restorative and reciprocal relationships. |
4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are? | Attention and growth in people and community connectedness. For me, making strong community connections is something I’ve put limited energy into. The pandemic further exacerbated the situation where my household and most people in my immediate community practiced isolation measures for health safety |
5. And for professional growth? | Parallel to people and community connectivity, I’d like to grow my professional networking and group facilitation skills. Both skills can help develop my capacity and capabilities in my current Program work. |
6. What have you invested in to get you where you are? | I chose to pivot my career to get where I am in my regenerative development path. In part of this pivot, I invested time and career growth to focus on an MBA program in 2020-2022. The MBA program through Presidio Graduate School is a small program based in the Bay Area, focused on MBAs and MPAs in Sustainability and beyond. I spent two years developing my understanding of systems change, leadership through vulnerability and authenticity, self-introspection and DEIJ work, and evaluating complex problems with an environmental justice lens. |
7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life? | adrienne maree brown- for transformative change and movement-building work |
8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it? | My philosophy of life is to move in a way that “feels right”- being led by one’s instincts and to stop or pause on situations or scenarios that cause harm or suffering. This philosophy is very human-centric and has room to consider all beings and ecosystems. |
