1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?
As an Environmental Consultant, I have worked with passion and dedication to bring new ideas, projects, and different perspectives to people, communities and organizations. But I have failed to create the impact I wanted to. I don't know, actually, what I want to impact, at the moment, I am unsure of what impact means.
Now, my focus is on the things that matter not only to me but to my community, to my surroundings. Good quality education is one. Mauritius has come a long way since its independence in 1968, but some of our communities are still struggling for basic needs.
I want my work to impact people, which then through organizations can impact/change the world. There is a need to educate and broaden the horizons of people in developing nations, so that they can think, question, act, and change to what they feel will fuel their success.
I believe that every human being is unique and can bring amazing thoughts to society as a whole. So, why are we not using these very resources?
2. What role do you see as yours to play?
My role would be to converse with people, communities and organizations, to see the greater potential in what they do. Yes, looking at the entire system, looking at everything that is 'attached' to that purpose and to that decision.
Every single human being is 'attached' to something, I often say that I am not alone but have strings that attach me to my family. This creates an important proud feeling and aspect in my life. Recently, I started wearing a religious bangle in my arm just as I used you when I was younger, then I thought of researching what it really meant, it said that this bangle will protect you, stop you from doing wrong, and always make you think of God. Do we need this sort of faith to do the 'right' thing? Is there a combination of attributes that a human being needs to possess to the 'right' thing?
3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?
My goal is to understand myself better, only then I can play the right role in society.
But my main aim is to create impact, change someone's life, make it better, make it happier.
And I want to feel fulfilled in what I do. I am not a machine but a human who can provide so much more to my society.
4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?
I want to dig deeper into myself and be able to use my potential in a positive and impactful way.
I want to learn more about the world, about ecology, about history, and really where we come from and why are we all unique and different.
And I want to really understand what success is. I still don't know the meaning of this word.
5. And for professional growth?
Learn more, expand my knowledge, meet people that are also questioning their work, their impact.
Meet experts in various fields to understand their successes and their passions, and how they formed these and have been able to take them forward.
Travel the world, first on my list is Antarctica to visit the King Penguins! This is for professional growth 🙂
6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?
My time and constant energy, effort and at times, being away during the most moments of my children's baby years.
But most importantly, my knowledge and openness to share this with all whom I meet, and to also have a listening ear for them, for their values, for their aspirations.
I can say that I have given a lot to others, but of course, it was fueling me for a while, but now I want to 'give' in a different way. But I don't know how.
7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?
The environment as a whole has been so inspirational for me. Whenever I am in nature, I discover new things, new inner feelings, and feel excited. I would love to know how nature really works. I have read books about how trees form part of a larger living system, how they feed and how they feed others.
And I have been always drawn to the work that John Boecker and Bill Reed have done over the past so many years. They are my true idols, my true gurus. I thank my lucky stars, that I know them for the past many years.
8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?
I don't know, I really haven't thought about this. We are but just atoms in space, that have been put together on Earth to do something, but I don't know what?
But if we are from nature and we have been put back into nature, then shouldn't we be nurturing the very place that made us so that we can live and thrive in harmony? Trees and animals were put on Earth too, and they live so beautifully with nature. Trees and animals actually make nature/the environment so much more pleasing and wonderful. Have you ever seen anything so wonderful as two baby elephants playing in the water? It's a sight that is one in a million and that you can never forget!
