| Working Title of The Project (which we will use to refer to it throughout the series) | Level Crossing Removal - South East Melbourne - LCR |
| Project Location | Carrum Downs |
| Nature of The Project (e.g. building, new community, economic development, etc.) | Level Crossing Removal |
| Why do you think this project is appropriate for the course assignment? | Our group deliberated over two projects but in the end chose the level crossing removal project at Carrum Downs as it is one of many level crossing projects to be rolled out throughout Melbourne right now. We wanted to look at the potential of these projects to link social, cultural , environmental and community models as well as their ability to impact economically to the area. These projects are over a large scale so we can look at landscape and indigenous culture, how indigenous lineage and knowledge can end up in the projects as something more than just "Murals" on a wall. Sustainability is proclaimed as an important issue to the project - but how important? How could have landscape and water drainage be used to create urban community gardens? How did the idea to solve a traffic problem impact the local community, and what would the outcomes of this major project look like if it was taken through a regenerative process rather than just sustainable and "problem solving"? |
