Working Title of The Project (which we will use to refer to it throughout the series) | 52 Broadway Renovation Project (52 Broadway for short) |
Project Location | Asheville, NC |
Nature of The Project (e.g. building, new community, economic development, etc.) | Building renovation of a historical building from the 1920s. The building was redone as an art gallery and hotel. |
Why do you think this project is appropriate for the course assignment? | The goal of this project was to “ensure that this hundred year old building would be around for the next hundred years”. The project's goal was to be a sustainable building that also was part of sustaining the community. The building has goals to include many different different systems - water, energy, material selection, walkability, resources, and economy. Group member Emily lives in Asheville and works very close to the site. She has contacts with the architect of the building. |
Additional Useful Information | The project has a unique focus on art - with an art gallery on the first floor and rooms available for artists to stay and engage with the community. The architecture firm is willing to provide us with material photos, drawings and other plans as needed. |
