LearnLife Regenesis Project

Barcelona & surroundings, Spain

Learning community, alternative to a traditional school.

They empower skills such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving to thrive in a fast-changing world. Their new learning paradigm consists of 21 elements in 3 clusters:
- Preparing the community
- Implementing the model
- Supporting and sustaining the model
They propagate an internal locus of control (to take your personal learning in your own hands, therefore they use 26 different methodologies) and external considering (emphasis on preparing the community, they visited over a 100 of the most innovative schools worldwide to understand the best practices that make those schools exceptional).
One of their 26 methodologies is place-based learning: Place-based learning expands learners’ understanding of their local and global community, through the physical environment, culture, history, and people. Which comes very close to Arthur Koestler’s holarchies of three nested circles of influence: yourself, your community, and the larger whole.

(Challenge-based learning is a framework for learning while solving real-world challenges and a way of structuring quests or projects. It builds on the foundation of experiential learning. This is very similar to our TRP-project.)

Right now LearLife has 2 Hubs up and running:
1. LearnLife Urban Hub in Barcelona city- It offers large open spaces, adaptable furniture and innovative studios for learners (how they call students) of all ages to follow their passions and gain new skills - https://www.learnlife.com/barcelona-urban-hub
2. LearnLife Eco Hub in Castelldefels, around 20 km from Barcelona (for 75 learners). A space where future-focused and community-driven people can gather to take action to protect this planet - https://www.learnlife.com/barcelona-eco-hub

They are building their 3rd Hub:
3. Village Hub in Sitges, around 40 km from Barcelona

They are planning on a 4th Hub in nature where other Regenerative concepts such as permaculture will be placed. This Hub will be built upon the learnings from the ECO Hub but for 350 learners:
4. LearnLife Infinity Hub, in nature but we do not have yet the information where.

In a first exploration call with one of the founders, Christophe Pommerening, he proposed to work in the ECO Hub but with the aim to find learnings for the Infinity Hub. He considers the ECO Hub a pilot for Infinity Hub and would be willing to put time and energy and the team agrees to work in this sense if TPR mentors also consider its a good idea.
