TRP Cohort Assignment | Americas Hybrid In-Person/Online with Intensive in the Hudson Valley, Spring-Summer 2024 |
Study Cohort Members | Dazzle Ekblad, Kelly Fragale, Tony Cho |
Working Title of The Project (which we will use to refer to it throughout the series) | City Of Kingston Food Systems Plan |
Project Location | Kingston NY |
Nature of The Project (e.g. building, new community, economic development, etc.) | From the Food Systems Plan stated objective: to develop a Food System Plan to improve resilience and food security while increasing access to nutritionally dense foods for all residents of the City of Kingston over |
Why do you think this project is appropriate for the course assignment? | This plan seems to be in it's final stages of development with a public presentation planned for sometime in June. It has defined the whole as the City of Kingston, using words like "systems", "resilience" etc. indicating aims toward sustainability. Dazzle has recently made a connection with someone who is a contributor to the plan/project and thinks that a interview with her is possible. Kelly, Dazzle and I all have interest in putting attention on a project in Kingston that is in the realm of fooding. Tony as a FL resident said he would support our team's focus on a project more local to us but he did miss our first call because of a family emergency so still waiting for confirmation from him that he approves of the direction we are thinking. I work at Hudson Valley Farm Hub which donates about a half a million pounds of food a year to the local emergency food system, some of which is going directly to Kingston residents. I've always been interested in thinking more systemically about this work. How to level up from the "do good" paradigm of food donations. This is a great opportunity that does have some connection to my work in addition to my place to be able to think about this. |
