1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

I currently see my primary work at the Belgian Development Agency, in the expertise department supporting the formulation and implementation of projects in the field of sustainable urbanisation in Belgian partner countries (mainly in Africa and Middle East) . Specifically, I work on the subject of inclusive cities, cities designed and thought of from their residents within a greater ecosystem. I work towards green and circular cities as well as inclusive cities. My work consists primarily of supporting multiple projects in that field (from formulating, supporting in partnership development, developing tools and guides, learnings and making connections between different projects).

I also see a major primary unpaid work of being a mother of 3 small children as it also takes up quite some energy:)

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

In terms of my role in my primary work, I see myself as a mobilizer to gather momentum and creating space, enabler for making connections and enabling ideas/ initiatives and also , trying to advocate for the theme of sustainable urbanisation at work but also in different partner countries.
It is much the same for my role as a mother, to accompany growth, evolution in a nurturing and inspiring way in order to encourage them to do their best.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

My goals would be to enhance much further the way cities are built and lived, so that people and the built environment can be more symbiotic with the overall environment and ecosystem and their surroundings, driving personal and collective initiatives so that ownership at the local level is placed for small or bigger scale projects.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

I am someone who has lots of ideas of (creative) projects- either personally, socially engaged project or professionally. However, I am impatient at times, or overwhelmed, and I seem to not be able to prioritize and act upon them_ be them on a smaller scale. I feel my personal goals hence need to be better align with realism and my current situation and being more conscious about the steps and the process leading to them in a positive light.
Overall, deep self-reflection, setting clear realistic goals that challenge me but not overwhelm, work on my self-consciousness and overcome some of my lack of confidence at times.

5. And for professional growth?

In terms of professional growth, I would like to gain much technical skills in urbanism and urban planning (i'm not an urbanism by training nor architect, yet i am passionate about maps, spatial analysis combining with human interactions), feel more confident and clear in public speaking (and overcome some of my impostor syndrom), feel more strategic and being able to take a step back in order to understand better where to place energy or not. I also would like to have a better 'holistic' build up of the various experiences I have had professionally (or personally) to best to able to work from that build up rather than in siloed areas.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

I guess I mostly invested time, time for studies, time to travel, time to read, time invested in volunteering and discovering new places by volunteering, by stepping out of comfort zone at times, time to pause between places and starting again and again.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

sociology, political science, literature, visual arts and dance, urban studies, international development studies.
In terms of thinkers, jane jacobs, amrtya sen, mandela, bell hooks, frantz fanon, edward said, normand baillargeon, paulo freire, georges brassens (on a personal note), ...

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

Difficult question..I guess my philosophy would highlight the need of social justice by promoting individual and collective empowerment to act upon direct environment for a greater collective and individual good, based on principles of solidarity, diversity, inclusion, collective creative actions, intercultural exchange and respect and celebrate each other's value, and respect for nature.
Humans would play a critical role as they would need to recognise their interactions and interdependencies between themselves and with nature and prioritize this interdependencies.
