1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

I am a programme manager - I see myself as applying those skills to working with communities after harmful events, to help them design and build better communities including built and natural environment, and human social-economic structures, that mimic nature (nature-based-solutions) so that they recover and build stronger resilience into their environment.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

My role could be one of several: I could use my experience/ skills as a programme manager to help set up a programme of work to design, build, and deliver a nature-based system. I could also apply my skills and experience in monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning to help reflect as the programme develops and adapt as learnings emerge. I could be a community connector - bringing the various actors to the work. I think my role really lies in programme management and monitoring/tracking, learning, adapting and driving the programme.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

I would like to find a role for myself in the area of regenerative practice, in a community that has been impacted by events such as natural disaster, or social/ economic events, and work alongside them with a multi-disciplined team to realise a vision of building a physical and human environment that is more aligned with, and able to co-evolve with nature - improving ability to respond to and recover from any future unexpected events.

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

Developing an understanding of working with communities to design, build and create regenerative environments.
Learning to work with multi-disciplined teams and join our various skills and experiences to be greater than the sum of the parts.
Personally development includes overcoming fears that keep me from achieving my aspirations, and growing faith to enable me to step out even when I am not sure what the future holds.

5. And for professional growth?

Regenerative growth and design understanding and capability
Understanding and practical application of dynamic system frameworks
Ability to apply design and development processes to regenerative practice
Learning to work in collaborative (rather than hierarchical) teams

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

Money in various courses and programmes (including this one)
Time in volunteering, working in community, working with community
Reading and learning from a wide range of books, podcasts and webinars
Joined several networks to learn and connect more with others who are working in this way

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

Daniel Wahl: Designing Regenerative Cultures
Jane Goodall: Her life and commitment
Joanne Macy: Her approach to the future we are needing to transition through
The team at Shareable, particularly their resources on Mutual Aid

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

(its rough but...) I believe in Freedom that allows a person to follow their dreams, be who they are (self-identify), to go where they want and to make their own choices about their life (self-actualization). I believe that to be truly free a person needs to be have economic security, home security, to be safe from fear and harm, to have enough food/clothing, and to have good health.
I believe that everyone needs to know that they are accepted and loved for who they are. Everyone needs to belong somewhere and to have friendships and positive social connections. Everyone needs to have a personal sense of purpose and to be able to participate in their community regardless of ability. Everyone deserves to live in harmony and balance with each other and all nature.
I believe that we must stand up and shout for what we believe in - because all our freedoms (for us who have them) can be so easily taken away if we do not fight to keep them for all people and nature. I believe sometimes we have to fight for what is right. I believe in Fair Share for all, in Caring for each other and our Gaia-Planet.
I believe there is no reason I cannot do, be and have everything I aspire to when my desires are in step with Spirit.
I believe that doing the right thing can be uncomfortable, hard and exhausting - that is why we need each other. Because it is too hard alone.

I believe it is the responsibility of those who have the most to stand up and fight - because those with the least are struggling just to survive and don't have the resources we have to fight for their dignity and humanity.
I believe that war, and policy-made poverty keep the rich and powerful in control and keep the rest of us vulnerable so that we won't be a threat. I believe we must find a way to be a threat. We must disrupt, rebel, dissent and break the rules that stop us helping and caring for each other.

I also know that I am afraid of acting - afraid of what I could lose (my home, my security, friendships)...afraid of being uncomfortable and alone.
Despite that I know I must do something because to do nothing is no longer an option for me.
