1. What do you see as your primary work at this stage of your life?

My primary work at this stage is continuing to connect the knowledge that I have learnt over the past nearly 15 years into the built environment; predominantly into buildings, precincts and parks; through the lens of a designer.
My work includes helping draw out sustainable or regenerative opportunities that contribute to a wider system; and to help teams unpick roadblocks that might exist in order to be successful.

2. What role do you see as yours to play?

Capacity building, awareness of a systems approach and the impact an individual project has (both positively and negatively to the systems in which it is connected. The translation of the technical/research application into the real world.

3. What goals or aims do you have in regard to the above?

TBC

4. Where do you feel your next arenas for personal growth are?

I imagine a future where I am less affected by things outside my control and have the power to make a significant impact on the things within my reach and no longer letting anxiety hold me back from contributing to the bigger picture. I’d like to be able to retain a crystal-clear mind amidst complex systems, where I can effortlessly distinguish meaningful and context-driven narratives. I’d like to understand how to more strategically break through barriers, resulting in a greater ability to influence and improve everything around me.

5. And for professional growth?

I like to enhance my professional growth by becoming a master at synthesising big ideas and seamlessly connecting opportunities to showcase substantial value. I’d like to be able to improve my ability to grasp the principles of systems thinking and effortlessly convey its essence to others.

6. What have you invested in to get you where you are?

I’ve spent nearly 15 years studying and practicing in the field of sustainability; predominantly within vertical infrastructure. Only within the last 3 years have I begun to think about regeneration and shared systems in detail. Recently I have taken a new job that aligns more with the regenerative ethos using a systems approach. My learning is continuous; and the regenerative practitioner series is the next phase of this.

7. What fields of learning and which thinkers have been important in your life?

Throughout various stages of my life, my interests and the subjects I've enjoyed learning about have evolved. Professionally, I have predominantly worked in the field of engineering, and I have always found the perspectives of former Chief Scientist Alan Finkel to be insightful and thought-provoking. Lately, I have found great pleasure in reading the optimistic and uplifting ideas presented in Paul Hawken's latest book.

8. Can you frame your philosophy or cosmology of life? What role(s) do humans play in it?

Lately, I've noticed that many of us tend to avoid tackling significant changes, myself included on occasion. Regrettably, we find ourselves in a predicament where widespread change is necessary to prevent further harm to our environmental and social ecosystems. We must let go of our detrimental habits. While nature can thrive without our presence, we, on the other hand, cannot exist without nature—both physically and mentally. Yet, we persist in harming the environment by emitting excessive amounts of carbon dioxide, surpassing the Earth's capacity to handle it. Additionally, we contribute to the problem through the release of harmful pollutants that lead to acidification, eutrophication, ozone depletion, and other detrimental effects. Nothing is hard as we make it to be – its not too late to start consciously trying to reverse our damage.
