Designing for Harmony with Place: Developing Place-Sourced Critical Success Factors
Growing the capacity of human and natural systems to evolve in harmony is a central focus of regenerative development; the first critical step is seeing a project and its place as living systems with intertwined potential. The next critical step–and often the more challenging one–is to translate that understanding into a system of process guidelines and progress indicators that ensure the design, construction and operation phases are aligned around actualizing that potential.
This workshop introduces a framework used by Regenesis to reframe conventional design guideline systems by incorporating place-sourced critical success factors that enable a living system to evolve.
The framework draws on the Six Essential Value-adding Processes, including:
- the processes required to provide the material structuring that forms the basis for life processes (the outer landscape of a place and project)
- the processes generating the “inner landscape” that sources spirit and will, and drives people to cherish and protect the places we inhabit
- the core capacities required to develop the above in harmony
Participants should have a project or initiative, ideally one that is of a manageable scale to hold in mind and work with as a whole.
This workshop is led by Regenesis faculty members Pamela Mang and Joel Glanzberg.
